I guess it’s this abrupt change to cold weather, but wintry white designs have been on my mind. I’m working it out of my system by playing around a little in whites. This is ” Swirls Squared:”
It’s just a tad bit different from the background fill design in “Love Songs,” below. If you look closely at “Love Songs,” you’ll see that it’s really more of a McTavishing with a heavy leaning on swirls:
Then I played with “Infinite Swirls,” but I’m only feeling so-so about this one:
I think it just doesn’t have enough texture to hold my interest. But my next one, “Arc de Plumes,” has some nice texture to it:
I can see lots of variations springing from that last one…maybe this weekend I can play again.
Gorgeous quilting! Funny you should mention the McTavishing; it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the top photo, although on closer inspection I decided it was really swirls with a little McTavish influence. I’ll have to throw in some more swirls next time; it’s very effective!
It seems that the technique that involves “echos” to the “n”th degree hints at the McTavishing style. I am a huge fan of that type of all-over more dense quilting that gives so much texture and interest. The simple swirl pattern is one I did for a long time but decided that there wasn’t enough ‘to it’, too! Your “Swirls Squared” is my kind of quilting….lovely!
Hi Patsy, Love the swirls!!! All is very nice. Your whole cloth is very pretty. And I noticed someone asked if you might consider making another dvd, is that in works for you? Also, anything upcoming for a dvd on your embroidery?

I like how the swirls look on the white, I can imagine that would be a nice background for a winter quilt.
